Can't select text in multiline text input on Mac & Linux

Current behavior

Hi, so on Ubuntu Cinnamon(and Mac, as I witnessed at my co-worker's laptop), I can't select text in multiline text inputs.
I can only select from where the text cursor is but not from wherever I want. I need to move the text cursor to be able to.

I also can't place the text cursor using my mouse. I need to move it with my keyboard.

How to reproduce it (as minimally and precisely as possible)

1. Write some text in a multiline text input
2. Try to select it to move the text cursor using the mouse

Expected behavior

It should function like any normal text input so I can select and place the text cursor wherever I want using my mouse.
