Adding a resit semester and automatically adding the courses for first and second semester to this resit semester

I want to add a resit semester to opensis school management and automatically insert the courses which have been registered under first and second semester to this resit semester. I have decided to add triggers to the course period table such that when ever a course is added to first or second semester it also adds to the resit semester. I wanted to ask if there is another way to carry out this task
