Add a "per item" and/or "overall" timeout feature

We may want to implement a way to "timeout" baseline in case one of the child items being processed goes into a loop. If a shell script is stalled for 30 minutes, users may be stuck endlessly with no obvious way out aside from powering off the device. We may be able to set a timeout feature on each item to avoid this.
