Gas is preferred because of ease of filtering and availability, impurities in liquids lower structural properties so its second variant, on field solids are rarely of good quality and are difficult to purify, since the device only changes temperature pressurizing material for higher toughness is not an option. Use of both heat and cold is required to balance the change, most common way to obey that requirement in combat is creating pockets inside solidified weapon to accelerate the still solid shards of it after it eventually shatters. Out of combat just heating up created objects is enough to equalize. Bracers automatically choose the most common component in current atmosphere to solidify, but that can be configurated to specific ones and even combinations(common choice is using solid oxygen(dark blue compared to colorless nitrogen) to mark parts of weapon that will be shot out after previously mentioned technique of creating heated pockets inside the material). Combining heat and cold allows to change form of weapon in combat making them look like constantly changing mist. Small limitation is that first forming of object requires both hands to grasp its supposed shape to form, afterwards it can be easily manipulated intuitively(exocortex).
Mechanics wise my main idea is the use of coldburn effects and how quick expansion of gases from a solid piece of gas affects the victim.
Of course, as a singularity its application isnt just combat oriented.
Main utilisation of the singularity itself is manufacturing of absorbers and weather control. for example, cryogenic coolers made with that technology do not take energy, in fact, they produce it by storing the energy that was present in objects that were placed to be cooled.
I(ncision) corporation singularity: Attachment of a vector to thin section of material in functional range, creating a "cutting force" effect. Has a wide field of applications. Expected voltage tier: IV, option to increase power will be available each other voltage(ie ZPM after IV)
Civilian uses range from precise medical scalpels that dont require to remove organs and flesh to get to the required point of operation, they just create a cutting force at required point in space. Machines that require a cutting action like cutting machines, lathe, so on.
Combat application is usually seen as blade sheaths with blades that cant be taken out fully. They are activated by pulling the blade out and back, where kind of return motion usually changes the resulting action.
Putting it back by hand- creates a flurry of cuts at desired location in most efficient form(defined via exocortex)(ie all at once, continuous flurry of cuts, multiple cuts assembled into a wide line or else shape, etc).
Taking hand off the handle and let it slide back by itself(via magnets or elastic strings i guess)- creates a spear like thrusting cut with great kinetic impact, that is also surrounded by wave of air going in opposite direction of impact. Useful for crude force application on solid objects.
Mechanics wise, melee combat but good, the idea is based on the weeb trope of character pulling the blade out and doing whatever with it and only after its sheathed back stuff falls apart into slices or whatever. Beside just being a weapon with big hitbox of the attack it would also leave traces on ground, actual block breaking or not i think its possible to do it in same way egon gun in hbm leaves traces on the blocks.
