To access the Meta Editor users should be granted CMS access to the 'Meta Editor' or have 'full administrative rights'. They do not require read or write access to the pages themselves.

If you need to run custom actions (such as regeneration of cache etc) after a meta field has been updated, then you can add the following function to your page class:
