About Studies and FireCloud Workspaces

Every study created in the portal also comes with a workspace in FireCloud, which has an attached Google Cloud Storage bucket. This is where uploaded data files are stored. When you create a study, you will receive an invitation email from FireCloud asking you to complete your registration. While you can still interact with your study & data through the portal, you will not be able to view your FireCloud workspace or associated Google storage bucket until you complete the registration.

Creating a Study

Start at the portal home page.

Visit the site here

If you have not already, log in.

Log in with your google account credentials.

After log in, add a study

After log in, you will be able to view your studies and add new ones. In the upper right corner, click on your user name and then click on "+ Add a Study".

Name the study

Give your study a name, this will be how people refer to and identify your study in the portal.

Set data embargo if needed (optional)

Select a time in the calendar after when data associated with the study can be downloaded. This is not a required step. Private data is always private, no matter embargo status. This only affects public data.

Set study permissions

Indicate if the study is private (only seen by the study owner and collaborators with permission) or public (seen by all).

Describe the study

The description will be prominent on the portal and will be the main way to communicate to others the context and design of your study. You are welcome to add your abstract, pictures, links or other items to create a rich description of your science.
