The hero can choose the destination hexagon when he casts the Mirror Image spell (first ring of hexagons, second ring of hexagons if the first ring is fully occupied, etc.).
The mouse cursor is changed and the possible target hexagons and the selected hexagon are clearly indicated.
Just like the Teleport spell, select your troop, then select the destination.
The range of movement of the mirror troop is indicated differently (softer greyed hexagons in the example) and the information bar shows the number of creatures.

The spell could also work in the same way as originally, but with an enhancement.
When the spell is cast, it prioritizes an hexagon that is not adjacent to one occupied by an opposing troop, and that cannot be reached by a moving opposing troop.
If several adjacent hexagons are occupied by an opposing troop, the mirror troop is positioned in the hexagon adjacent to the weakest opposing troop.
This spell enhancement could be integrated directly into fheroes2.
Note: all of this could eventually change. :)
