Would be great if we'd had a proper Rhino logo, to use it instead of the current picture of a rhino in our GitHub readme and our documentation.

Anyone with some design skills or with connections to someone who does that wants to help out?

Got some ideas what the logo could look like, but ideas are more than welcome!

Thanks for offering! I'm not sure that there's a lot that you need to do -- perhaps you could try a few and attach them to this issue, and if that works, we can always create a PR or two with the favorite candidates!

For inspiration, you could look at our Wikipedia page, the original O'Reilly book that inspired the name, the zoo, I don't know -- that's why we're asking for help!

maybe

  • crossbreeding the java duke with a rhino
  • a rhino drawn with the same style as the java duke (black border, red nose)

Hello,
here is a suggestion. It is the silhouette of a Java nashorn (Rhinoceros sondaicus). It lives in the west of the island of Java, in the Ujung Kulon National Park. Unfortunately, it is threatened with extinction. I like the fact that it lives on Java and with this a connection to the programming language exists.
Best regards
Stefan

Great to get some input! Personally I was thinking something along these lines (AI generated, bad quality unfortunately):

I like the silhouette of the Java nashorn as well, but wonder whether for use as a favicon on our documentation webside for example it isn't too detailed

Hello Paul,
you are right, too many details are no longer visible if the size decreases. So I reduced the number of knots to sharpen the contour of the Java nashorn and replaced JS with R.

rhinoIcon4_small

I scaled this image to 32x32 pixels with 256 colors icon:

rhinoIcon4_32

This icon I used on a test site:

rhinoIconBrowser

It now depends on the claims made on the icon.
Best regards
Stefan
