Description

This is a technical, artistic, theoretical reflection on how we use technology to run and experiment with decentralised festivals in Berlin. VERANTWORTUNG 3000 (2016), HOFFNUNG 3000 (2017) and now p2panda are platforms and protocols to setup groups, festivals, gatherings, events or spaces in a decentralised, self-organised manner which allow us to raise questions on how we organise ourselves in our social, artistic & theoretical communities.

We will look into implementations / realisations of decentralised festivals and talk about how they influenced our way of discussing and producing art and technology. Finally we will discuss p2panda, an idea of a p2p protocol for organising resources, places and events based on a new data structure named »bamboo«, which is inspired by the SSB protocol.

Session Objective

  1. Show work and reflection processes of collectives and groups (look into the discourse of BLATT 3000, Liebe Chaos Verein e. V. in Berlin) on how technology informs art production and how these systemic "meta"-questions can be made the actual means of art, theory and discussion.

  2. Introduce some technical key-concepts of the p2panda protocol and how offline-first, only-broadcast models / append-only data-types, user authorization through cryptographic keys are interesting for ephemerality, self-organization, non-individuality, decentralization and anonymity in art and theory production.

  3. Discuss questions and needs around questioning frameworks (technologies, festivals, universities, curation as "frameworks") and how the p2panda protocol might help to experiment with them.

Presenter Bio

Andreas is an electric bass player, producer, composer and developer. His work consists of both digital and physical environments, spaces, festivals, software or platforms for participants and listeners. The computer itself serves as an artistical, political, social or philosophical medium, dealing with computer culture, machine learning, platform politics or decentralized networks. He studied art history, musicology, media philosophy and computer science in Berlin where he also lives and works.
