Type: Artwork/Animation
Length: looping two channel video
Language: English
Description: The Magi system is a two channel animation which explores the aesthetics of network infrastructure. There has been a recent trend of users posting pictures of server racks and network wiring on forums like reddits r/Cableporn and r/Cablefail. These images have spread out and proliferated on hashtag based platforms like Instagram and Pinterest. This project uses images and themes from these platforms as a starting point to investigate popular conceptions of how we visualise network infrastructure.
This animation is currently a work in progress, but will be ready by the time of this conference.
Session Objective
-Exploring popular notions of the aesthetics of network infrastructure
Material and Technical Requirements
My preference would be to show this work on two screens or projectors, however this work could be formatted as a single channel or show interstitially between presentations.
