Payload 3 single block instead of blocks array

I have a collection called submissions which can be of different types. It has some common fields and some depending on the type. I chose the Blocks feature to currently implement this. Since Blocks always results in an array, I was wondering if I could create an alternative which can only be a single block or if there is another way to achieve what I want to have.
