Changelogs working for everything but renovate itself when using 2-part docker tag

My self-hosted renovate instance can fetch changelogs for everything that has a GitHub Release associated but the renovate/renovate docker image. I've been observing this behavior since day 0 of using renovate (which, to be fair, was just a few days ago)

While the logs (linked below) do state "Fetching changelog: https://github.com/renovatebot/renovate (39.66 -> 39.69)", this never seems to succeed and the changelog in the PR description keeps on missing.

I think this is very odd and can't wrap my head around how this is happening, surely this can't affect everyone?

Possibly a side effect of there is no such thing as a 39.66 release or 39.69 release. Renovate images release using 3-part semver, i.e. 39.66.0 or 39.69.0

Oh yeah, that makes sense!
Just pinned it to 39.69.3 and the newly created PR now features the changelog 🚀
I'm guessing renovate has now switched to pinning to patch releases rather than just minor ones? Meaning this will be a permanent fix, right?
