Android "Hello Word" tutorial and/or Example

Is there an online tutorial giving step by step instructions on how to develop your first android circuit application? i am excited to learn circuit and promote it to my fellow developers however i find the existing docs overwhelming.
does a simple step by step tutorial exist?
i am open to any suggestions on how to proceed to gain the required knowledge/experience to become a circuit expert
