If the user's Macintosh computer running OS X doesn't already have Java 6 installed, they will need to
install it to run the Pledge OTP app. (For instance, a fresh install of OS X
10.10 "Yosemite", the latest OS X version, as of this writing, does not come
with a Java JRE installed.)
Because I already installed Java 6 during the original D-Lab
onboarding session, I don't have ready notes here for issues encountered
during that process.
I recall finding that process confusing, in part since:
the installation runs in the background and takes considerable time to complete
the 'installation completed' dialog didn't pop up in the foreground
that dialog also didn't mention what software was successfully installed
and thus we might consider adding installation (or troubleshooting) instructions for this part.

Noting that "upgrade" to Yosemite (from 10.8 to 10.10), where pre-upgrade Pledge was installed and working, post-upgrade attempt to launch Pledge gives message "To run 'Pledge' you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." No functional clue is given about how to do this.
Came across one recent discussion about how someone might do this - seemingly useful on its face - while fully acknowledging that the "need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime" dialog message does not provide any clues to a user about how to install that runtime:
If necessary, we could consider pointing Pledge users to the Apple Java 6 download page mentioned in that discussion, if they encounter that "need to install" dialog in Yosemite (or otherwise):
