I received an email in response to my HPC cluster account setup request, with a link to a Google Doc.
That email looked in part like this:

(some text here)
(the Google Doc link)

And the Google Doc document itself contained:

hpc.brc.berkeley.edu
Password - (some password here)

I had to think about this a bit before realizing that (some text here) was in fact my username, and that hpc.brc.berkeley.edu in the Google Doc wasn't my username, but rather some potentially relevant hostname, to be used in some context later on. (My username was actually - and also - the filename of that Google Doc.)

Perhaps in the emails we send to people when their HPC cluster accounts are created, we might signpost this a bit more clearly, something like:

Your username: (some text here)
Your password: To find your first-time password, see the Google Doc that's been shared with you, at (some URL)

(or else)

For your username and first-time password, visit the Google Doc just shared with you at (some URL)
Your username is the name of that document.
Your first-time password is included in the body of that document.

In that Google Doc, we might also include labels for any information provided:

Password: (some password here)

(And any other information, such as hostnames, might be appropriately labeled and/or described thereafter ...)
