• BIOS Version: E16U1IMS.10A
• GPU: RTX 2070 Non Super - Mobile
• CSM is turned off. Make sure to confirm this in the BIOS and not with GPU-Z or similar since it can be inaccurate
• 4G decoding is enabled. Make sure to confirm this in the BIOS and not with GPU-Z or similar since it can be inaccurate
• UEFIPatch is applied (see Using UEFIPatch for more information). On some motherboards DSDT Patching is also needed

Hi All,
Im trying to add ReBAR functionality into my MSI GE65 Raider. i9-9880H, RTX 2070 Mobile. In the unlocked MSI BIOS I'm able to enable 4G decoding and disable CSM which does enable ReBAR on the integrated Intel GPU, but not on the RTX 2070 mobile. See below:

Clearly, I need to add the NvStrapsReBar.ffs into my BIOS to get it working for the dGPU. I followed the instructions, generated my own NvStrapsReBar.ffs and inserted it into the BIOS as per the instructions. As for the BIOS itself, I updated the laptop to the latest BIOS and ME firmware from MSI and dumped it via Intel FTP. I performed ffs mod in said BIOS dump file. My intent is to flash the modified BIOS via Intel FTP.

However, when I run UEFI Patch on the patched ReBAR BIOS, I get this issue:

Can someone please take a look at this? I compared the original BIOS dump to the modified ReBAR BIOS and all the paddings are in the same place. Something I'm missing?

@Leznuk try without Uefipatch first if you're worried it corrupts BIOS

Idk where you got that patch tho because it is not in ReBarUEFI repo.

And flash at your own risk on laptops, you can't recover without a hardware flasher.

You should take a full BIOS dump before proceeding

You most likely will need a 1.8v adapter too for the hardware flasher

Yup, I made a BIOS dump via Intel FTP. Then I took that BIOS dump and added the ffs into it.

I compared the original BIOS dump to the ffs modified BIOS via UEFITool by checking the pad files. They all are in the same spots. Any recommendations what else I could check to minimize my chances of a bad flash?

@Leznuk there isn't anything else to check.

But you should keep it mind NvStrapsRebar currently has issues with BSOD resume from sleep, not something you want on a laptop. Though the module let's you disable itself without a reflash

I guess I'll focus on just getting the microcode updated and call it a day.

Any luck with this I also have an MSI laptop I'd like to add rebar to the dGPU on and am running into similar issues.

Where is the FPRR and how do I disable those? I did make sure the Intel BIOS Guard was disabled.

Its somewhere in the advanced BIOS. Gotta dig through the options.

I cant help you right now as my laptop is still dead. MOSFET on main DC rail is dead and motherboard will not power on. Looking for options to see if I can have it replaced but its so hard to find a capable shop in US that can do this without charging 300+.

I did hear back from SVET on the forums - and it sounds like it's just not possible due to some other internal mechanism that requires the BIOSs be signed for MSI laptops.

Is it Intel BootGuard or something else ?

UEFITool NE can show which regions are protected by boot guard. The color coding is explained here https://medium.com/firmware-threat-hunting/bypass-intel-boot-guard-cc05edfca3a9

Sometimes laptops and prebuilts have a region that's free from BootGuard protections

According to SVET on the MSI forums:

From 9 generation laptops and above they have more protections against modifications,
the installed BIOS need to be signed to be able to run, which is checked by PCH at power on,
For modding BIOS part of the BIOS chip, there is no chance.

Hello, do you still have the modified bios of the 2070 super? I can't modify the bios of my rom, could you provide me with the one you used?
