This tap is tested with Python 3.9 to 3.13. The tap is tested with SQL Server 2022, but should support all versions compatible with pyodbc assuming you have the correct ODBC driver installed. More information on setting up drivers is available in the pyodbc documentation.
Setting | Required | Default | Description |

A full list of supported settings and capabilities is available by running: tap-mssql --about
This Singer tap will automatically import any environment variables within the working directory's
.env
if the --config=ENV
is provided, such that config values will be considered if a matching
environment variable is set either in the terminal context or in the .env
file.
This tap utilizes pyodbc as the SQL Server driver. You must have a compatible version of the Microsoft ODBC Driver installed on the host machine. Installation instructions are available on Microsoft.
For SQL Alchemy to connect to the database, the driver has to be specified in the connection string.
There are two ways to accomplish this.
First, by providing it in the sqlalchemy_url_query_options
as key/value pairs:
sqlalchemy_url_query_options:
- key: driver
value: ODBC Driver 18 for SQL Server
Or by providing it as part of the sqlalchemy_url_query
configuration property.
mssql+pyodbc://sa:***@localhost:54198/databasename?driver=ODBC+Driver+18+for+SQL+Server
You can easily run tap-mssql
by itself or in a pipeline using Meltano.
tap-mssql --version
tap-mssql --help
tap-mssql --config CONFIG --discover > ./catalog.json
Follow these instructions to contribute to this project.
pipx install poetry
poetry install
Create tests within the tests
subfolder and
then run:
poetry run pytest
You can also test the tap-mssql
CLI interface directly using poetry run
:
poetry run tap-mssql --help
Testing with Meltano
Note: This tap will work in any Singer environment and does not require Meltano. Examples here are for convenience and to streamline end-to-end orchestration scenarios.
Next, install Meltano (if you haven't already) and any needed plugins:
# Install meltano
pipx install meltano
# Initialize meltano within this directory
cd tap-mssql
meltano install
Now you can test and orchestrate using Meltano:
# Test invocation:
meltano invoke tap-mssql --version
# OR run a test `elt` pipeline:
meltano elt tap-mssql target-jsonl
This tap uses Change Tracking for incremental replication. This is not the same as Change Data Capture / CDC, which is not supported by this tap.
Change Tracking must be enabled on the database and tables prior to capturing incremental changes. A great guide for setting up change tracking for a database is available in the Stitch documentation.
