A brief description of the datavis

Using the annual household survey, we have attempted the answer the question:

• Do financial attitudes correspond to financial positions?

Our datavis:

• groups respondents according to perception of financial security
• shows underlying factors influencing response patterns
• shows fundamental patterns of economic household behaviour
• distinguishes them from household’s actual financial position

Why you felt this was the best way to present the data

We want to further enable you to:

• determine chains of causality
• fine-tune evaluation of policy impact
• have multidimensional fun with valuable raw data

The map accessible via the demographics tab uses:

• derived Ordnance Survey shape files from gadm.org
• a map image from gos.gov.uk

Hanif Samad

Hanif is an aspiring data scientist eager for a challenge. Trained in medical and genetic statistics at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, he is on the hunt for opportunities that throw up the most interesting connections between data, analysis and real-world problems. He is currently an analyst in the public healthcare sector in Singapore, navigating its complex datascape and business requirements.

Christopher Jarvis

Christopher is a Biostatistician who is working towards a PhD in Spatial Statistics of Cluster randomised Trials at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He has experience in financial and medical analysis, with a main focus on prognostic modelling and Clinical trials in the areas of Cancer and Cardiovascular disease.

James Arthur Cattell

James works in the Cabinet Office transparency and open data team and has previously worked in the Government Digital Service.
