Hi @domferr

This is not meant to be merged, I just wanted to show you that I had started trying out what it could look like if the menu icon showed the current layout instead of the static SVG icon. Have you played around with this before? Seems like it would be relatively straightforward to have the following features:

  • menu icon replaced with mini layout representation
  • tiles are drawn hollow except the one which is currently focused
  • menu icon is scaled appropriately when multiple monitors are connected (i.e. it is 2x as wide when two monitors present)

What do you think?

Oh wow this is cool 😃

I didn't consider this in the past since I thought that having the same icon was easier for the average user to remember where and which icon is Tiling Shell's across all the icons in the top panel. However we could think about have a "dynamic" icon as an optional feature which can be turned on and off in the settings!
