If you are updating from CFW 2.0:
Go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and delete everything Chromium related
Delete everything from the C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\Chromium, except the User Data folder, if you want to keep your saved settings.
Run the installer below
The uninstaller is now capable of removing the versioninfo.txt and every useless remaining files so updating will be easier in the future. Just click on the bottom right corner in CFW Settings when you get an update notification there.
ChromiumForWindows 2.0 (Added CFW Settings Interface + new backend)
Changes:
- Huge backend rewrite
- Added ChromiumForWindows Settings Interface
- Update notifier
Important notice:
I forgot to add the autorun function, because I wanted to release this with the Material UI installer, but it's still not ready.
Please Download the ChromiumAutorun.zip, extract all the files and run the program so it adds the Chromium Updater to the registry and it can check for updates every time you start the computer.
The source code is provided for the Autorun fix as always.
OR you can add it manually:
Go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run in the registry editor and add the following values:
Value name: Chromium Updater
Value data: C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\Chromium\ChromiumForWindows Updater.exe
Please, if you are updating:
- Go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and delete everything Chromium related
- Delete everything from the C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\Chromium, except the User Data folder, if you want to keep your saved settings.
- Run the installer below
ChromiumForWindows 1.5.5 (ungoogled mini installer support)
Again, the ungoogled Chromium got some updates. Now it supports mini_installer.exe which means faster and easier updating. 7zip is not needed anymore to extract and manually install it. Optional release. No need to download if it's working right for you.
ungoogled-chromium-avx-v1.5.5.exe --> Contains the AVX instruction set for newer processors (2011 and above).
ungoogled-chromium-v1.5.5.exe --> Does not contain the AVX instruction set for newer processors (2011 and above).
If you are updating ChromiumForWindows or the ungoogled version, please uninstall the old version in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and remove everything in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Chromium\ except the User Data folder if you don't want to lose your saved stuff.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but I can't make the Third Party Installer to do these.
It will be fixed when the Material UI Installer is ready.
PS.: "googled" Hibbiki release is on 1.5.3 because it's still stable and working fine. The last two updates were focused on the ungoogled release.
CFW 2.0 will be a huge drop. π
ChromiumForWindows 1.5.4 (Hotfix for ungoogled chromium)
Ungoogled Chromium (Marmaduke Release) now contains the default browser setting!
This broke the updater so please if you already had the 1.5.3 release, follow the instructions to fix the issue!
- Go to Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features and remove everything Chromium related
- Press Windows key + R and type: %localappdata%
- Search for Chromium folder and delete everything in it, except the "User Data" folder, if you wish to keep your saved bookmarks, passwords, etc...
- Press Windows key + R and type: regedit --> Press enter --> Search for Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Chromium******************
- Right click on it and delete it
- Install the latest Ungoogled Chromium below and enjoy it!
If you are updating ChromiumForWindows ungoogled do the above mentioned tasks!
If you are updating ChromiumForWindows, uninstall the old version in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and remove C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Chromium\versioninfo.txt file.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but I can't make the Third Party Installer to do these.
It will be fixed when my Material UI Installer is ready. π
Also working hard on a Settings interface, where you'll be able to choose different builds (normal, ungoogled...) and add different launch arguments.
Thank you @timotejroiko for the hint!
hibbiki_raw is a raw material for the upcoming new release. I needed to upload it to test the new unzipping method.
I highly advise you not to download it yet. It's not done and installer is not bundled.
ChromiumForWindows 1.5.3
Update: Marmaduke switched back to the original release name, so Ungoogled installer was fixed/updated in this release on 22/09/2020.
- Fixed Ungoogled update issue (Marmaduke changed the name of the release files and the updater could not download them)
- Added output log functionality (%localappdata%\Chromium\log\*_log.txt)
Please, if you are updating ChromiumForWindows, uninstall the old version in Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and remove C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Chromium\versioninfo.txt file.
If you are using ChromiumForWindows-ungoogled, you will have to delete everything in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Local\Chromium\ except the "User Data" folder, if you want to update in the future (for now).
Sorry for the inconvenience, but I can't make the Third Party Installer to do that.
It will be fixed when my Material UI Installer is ready. π

Also working hard on a project to have the abilty to choose your release. (eg.: stable, raw, ungoogled...)
I know.. These recent Releases are just like updating Chromium manually, but now the installer is far from my original idea. When I started this project I only wanted to make myself a background Chromium updater & launcher. Now it has a juicy UI and a lot of improvements to make it more faster, nicer and optimized. If I can achive to fix the current opened GitHub issues, I won't make a bunch of Release. But now... It's still in Beta. π
