Pellet dispensers have failed

Problem

A pellet dispenser is not working properly. This can happen in one of two ways:

  1. The pellets have become lodged in the food chute, and will not allow more pellets to fall.

  2. (Very Rare) The beam break that communicates with the motors is failing.

Solutions for problem 1

-Typically, this will be caused by excessive dust building up in food chutes as pellets are spun around during normal use.

-To fix this, simply take a pipe cleaner and insert it into the dispensing hole. By using some force, you can hopefully dislodge any dust and eventually allow food to be dispensed again.

-Alternatively, you can attempt to insert the pipe cleaner into the hole where the food falls into the food chute (located in the basin collar). This method is considerably more difficult, due to the fact that pipe cleaners are flexible. But, if you can insert a pipe cleaner into this opening, push it completely through the food chute. Dust and food pellets should come pouring out.

Solutions for problem 2

  • If the motor cannot be heard when the beam break is triggered. The wires may be broken or shorted (especially if a mouse escapes!). To fix, refer to the Motor section of the wiki, and check all wires for external damage. If any wire is damaged, replace the corresponding motor.
